For maximum effect, press Esc > Options > Video Settings > Brightness . Set it to "Moody" (0%). Wait! Do not set it to Bright. Because the texture pack forces light level 15, setting the in-game brightness to "Moody" actually increases contrast, making ores pop out against stone.
